Two Decades in Rock - Booklet

Ok no music on offer here just a copy of the 26 page booklet that accompanied the bands twentieth anniversary release . the 5 record box set  - Two Decades In Rock (Which was twenty two years ago) , and was basically just a compilation covering the bands career up to that point.Nothing new or unreleased was included

The booklet was a reasonable attempt at summing the bands career up until that point and was written by Kirk Blows of Music Week who also had this to say on the back of the box

"Since the opening bars of GYPSY, the first track on their 1970 début album '...Very 'Eavy...Very 'Umble, 'URIAH HEEP' have endeavoured to travel their own unique course. emerging along with the likes of LED ZEPPELIN and DEEP PURPLE.URIAH HEEP were never content to produce just plain heavy rock, choosing to embellish it with harmonies and melody in a quest to develop their own distinct character

Throughout the seventies, the early part of which saw tem record such classic albums as 'DEMONS AND WIZARDS' 'THE MAGICIANS BIRTHDAY', and 'SWEET FREEDOM,' the band pesonified sucess, with guitaristMick Box, vocalist David Byron and keyboards player Ken Hensley,in particular establishing their personalities through a style of music that put HEEP on a plane of their own

The eighties were no different in terms of accepting new challenges, with the band continuing to explore new territories musically-as the 'ABOMINOG'and'HEAD FIRST' albums proved- and geographically, with HEEP establishing themselves as global conquerors, having now played in some thirty eight different countries

The recent critically acclaimed 'RAGING SILENCE' album saw the HEEP fires burning brightly, and though the line-ups have changed, the spirit continues. These forty seven tracks take you on a graphic journey through the history of a band who have been instrumental in forging the story of hard rock

OK I will kick off the latest run of bootlegs with this one recorded at the Bands "home Venue" the Shepherds Bush Empire in London on the 8th of December 2011 during the " Into the Wild" tour. I must confess I haven't really listened to this one much as I own a copy of the "Concert Live" official bootleg recorded in Wolverhampton from earlier on the same tour. What this bootleg has though is the full set (the Wolverhampton gig had a strict curfew applied which meant they missed a few of the songs off, namely Lady in Black, no loss there, Bird of Prey and the excellent acoustic solo by Mick before The Wizard

Enjoy

3. Return to Fantasy
4. Stealin'

From a personal point of view it was nice to see someone in the O2 organisation knew how to spell Heep correctly. It's a shame they didn't tell their colleagues in Glasgow

Chartbusters '69 - David Byron

I was round at a mates house the other day listening to Heep (this would be the same person that i took to see the band on their UK tour in December), The same person who up until 6 months ago thought that the only heep songs in existence were The wizard and easy livin. anyway there i was listening to some great songs when he brought out his vinyl collection of which is not very extensive but for the most part is all classic 70s rock and it is all in excellent condition. Although he had no Heep, I have since corrected  that situation. Imagine his face when I asked him if he had any "Top of the Pops" albums. Then imagine my face when he produced this one. "Chartbusters '69" which we know one David Byron contributed some of the vocals to

I have now listened to this several times and there  is no doubt in my mind that he provides lead vocals on at LEAST 4 of the tracks

Track List
original artist appears in brackets

01 - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (Beatles/The Marmalade)
02 - Albatross Instrumental (Fleetwood Mac)
03 - Son of a Preacher Man (Dusty Springfield)
04 - Race With the Devil (The Gunn)
05 - I'm a Tiger (Lulu)
06 - Build me Up Buttercup (The Foundations)
07 - Lily the Pink (The Scaffold)
08 - Urban Spaceman (Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band)

Authors Note

Been A bit quiet on the blogger front for a while, mainly because I was running out of things to post.I haven't completely been wasting my time though and i do have quite a few bootlegs collected that i will post over the coming weeks. Meanwhile it has come to my attention that there are quite a few links down. So with that in mind i will attempt to correct as many of these as possible. some of my earlier blogs were hosted on megaupload which of course has been closed down (again i will try to re upload these to a different server)

Keep on Blogging
